Organizations that fail to provide high quality customer service may lead to loss of new and repeat customers, reduced revenues, and survival of an organization. The purpose of this correlational study was to examine the relationship between part-time employment and customer service complaints of financial organizations. The data for part-time employment included part-time employment for economic reasons, part-time employment for non-economic reasons, primary and secondary jobs that are part-time, and total part-time employment extracted from the Bureau of Labor Statistics Monthly News Release. The data for customer service complaints was collected from the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau's Complaint Database and included complaints concerning bank accounts, consumer loans, student loans, and money transfers. There was a strong negative correlation between Consumer Loan (rs = - 0.521) and Money Transfer (rs = - 0.597) complaints and part-time for economic reasons and a strong positive correlation between Consumer Loan (rs = 0.635) and Money Transfer (r = - 0.573) complaints and part-time for non-economic reasons. This study identified a clear relationship between part-time employment and customer service failures in the financial industry.
