This study explored the relationship between college education and promotions, assignments, and perceptions among Army Special Operations Forces noncommissioned officers. The researcher reviewed promotion record archives from 19 centralized promotion boards, and administered a self-designed survey questionnaire to 119 commissioned officers and noncommissioned officers. The researcher concluded that there was a very strong relationship between promotion selection and education at the bachelor's degree level and for those soldiers with up to 59 credits but no degree. Alternately, the researcher received 36 survey responses which showed there was no relationship between assignment and education level, though this result was not statistically generalizable. Furthermore, perceptions about college-educated noncommissioned officers were shown to be complex, perhaps warranting a future phenomenological study.
