This study employed survey research to evaluate several aspects of academic librarians' experiences with mentoring, including impact on career progression into academic library administration, career satisfaction, and an overview of the types of mentoring experienced. The specific types of mentoring considered were formal, informal, required, voluntary, internal to an institution, or external. Career stages during mentoring were also described, including entry-level, mid-career, and leadership stages. Statistical analyses were performed using descriptive and correlational methods and textual coding was employed. Implications for practice and suggestions for further study are presented.
