The present study examines the relationships between cell phone use, social media use, and three dimensions of health (psychological, social, and physical) among current University of Massachusetts Lowell (UMass Lowell) undergraduate students. It is hypothesized that social media and cell phone use will have significant negative associations with health. Participants are recruited via the UMass Lowell Psychology Research Participant Pool and a mass email sent to all currently-enrolled Introduction to Sociology students where they are provided with a link to complete an online questionnaire. Results indicate that cell phone use has negative associations with self-esteem and psychological health but positive associations with social health and that social media use has negative associations with self-esteem, psychological health, physical health, and sleep.
