The objective of this study is to understand the first impressions of an American public to Quebecois film. Through the use of questionnaires and discussion before and after the projection, individuals expressed their initial reactions and subsequent reflections to the films and what they may or not have portrayed about the province. Thus, the participation in this study provided a sample on which is based our attempt to answer the question: What is communicated through Quebecois film to Americans spectators, regardless of the intention of the filmmaker? These impressions are contained in the results as well as the discussions of the participants with various experiences of life. Each spectator arrives with baggage which they use during the perception of a film and in order to decode the film. Far from wanting to test the viewer's knowledge of the province, the investigation focused, rather, on the aspects of the Quebecois films which grabbed their attention.
