This study investigated differences in leaders' emotional intelligence (EI) scores across three nationalities (Mexico, Tanzania, and United States) while controlling for age, gender, tenure, and education. Leaders were recruited for participation in the study through a convenience snowball sampling method via the researcher's personal and professional networks. Participants' emotional intelligence was measured using The Assessing Emotions Scale (Schutte, Malouff, & Bhullar, 2009), a 33-item, five-point Likert scale instrument. An analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) was used to test the main and interaction effects of nationality, gender, and education on the overall Emotional Intelligence scores and its subscales (Perception of Emotion, Managing Own Emotions, Managing Others' Emotions, and Utilization of Emotion), while controlling for the effects of age and leadership tenure. Significant differences by nationality were found on overall Emotional Intelligence scores, Perception of Emotion, Managing Own Emotions, and Managing Others' Emotions. A significant interaction between Gender and Education was also found concerning overall Emotional Intelligence, Perception of Emotion, Managing Others' Emotions, and Utilization of Emotion. Age was found to be a significant covariate with overall Emotional Intelligence and Managing Own Emotions.
