Military veterans after military service are becoming increasing overweight, and obese shrinking an existing gap already prevalent in the general population. The endstate is that the injurious health results of cancer, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease are major chronic diseases that are crippling veterans every day and behavior and knowledge plays a significant role in perpetuating lifestyle factors. The present study utilized legacy soldiers (n = 102); veterans who represent a population with complex injuries and poorer health in general through the theorectical lense of the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB). The quantitative study collected data from veterans in Texas and on social media sites were participants completed a survey that referenced behavioral history through recall with the intervention group receiving health promotion messages that espoused good nutrition and physical activity for adults. Central findings reference significant differences between the control group and intervention group with education being a strong indicator of behavioral intent. A significant positive correlation was observed between attitude towards physical activity and behavioral intent to execute physical activity (r p = 0.28, p = .004) in the control group. It was unexpected to observe a significant negative correlation with subjective norms (family, healthcare providers) and level of control a veteran had over their nutritional habits (rp = -0.20, p = .042). The results suggest that education programs delivered through technology should consider the users' skills and knowledge of the technology delivery platform in connection with one's attitude and perceived behavioral controls that shape intentions that are influenced by social determinants of health.
