The current study explored the relationship between overall emotional intelligence and attitudes toward diversity while controlling for certain demographic factors (age, race, gender, education, and job tenure). The sample consisted of 187 exempt professionals who work for consumer product companies in the United States collected from a Qualtrics-managed panel. Hierarchical multiple linear regression indicated that emotional intelligence was not positively related to attitudes toward diversity. Results did not support the existing theory that emotional intelligence influenced work attitudes, behaviors, and outcomes. The study extended existing knowledge of the application of emotional intelligence theory in the field of organizational management by offering insight into the emerging field of emotions and diversity as organizations seek ways to understand and manage organizational members' reaction to social features of work life. The primary research question for the study is: What is the explanatory relationship between Attitudes toward Diversity Scale Index (DV), as measured by the Attitudes toward Diversity Scale (Montei, Adams, & Eggers, 1996), and Emotional Quotient Inventory Index (IV), as measured by the Emotional Quotient Inventory, controlling for Age (CV), Race (CV), Gender (CV), Education (CV), and Job Tenure (CV) of exempt professionals in consumer product companies within the United States?
