This study Examining Perceived Cultural Competence in Rural and Urban Schools, examined teachers in rural and urban high schools in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Cultural competence is the ability to successfully teach students who come from cultures other than one's own. The researcher studied two different school districts in Kentucky, one rural and one urban. This primarily quantitative study examined 139 rural and urban high school teachers from predominately White schools with low minority and at-risk student populations. This study examined and compared teachers' attitudes regarding cultural competence in rural and urban county school districts. The study examined teachers' knowledge of cultural competence, self-efficacy, and creativity when working with minorities and at-risk students in predominately White schools. The comparison of the two districts examined if there is a difference in cultural competence among high school teachers from an urban and rural perspective with minorities and at-risk students in predominately White schools. Faculty participants completed a cultural competence survey. Thus statistical analyses of the survey data suggested that teachers in rural and urban county schools have no differences when working with minorities and at-risk students. The researcher tested the statistical significance of the data using an independent t-test, a test using the t-statistic, and the Anova test to assist with data analysis to determine the outcome of the survey. For the independent t-test and the Anova test, the researcher examined the differences between groups of teachers. The data revealed that perceptions of rural and urban school teachers in one rural and in one urban school district, have no significant differences on these measures. The researcher's independent sample t-test on measures did not find any significant difference between urban and rural teachers in regards to minority and at-risk students. The researcher compared differences between the samples collected to the differences between the sample means.
