This research study focuses on the design and implementation of curriculum for costume and fashion courses with an aesthetic pedagogical approach within the Performing Arts Department at a college in the southwest of the United States. This study details the implementation of aesthetics in the design of a curriculum and serves as a case study with an account of specific practices in costume and fashion design workshops. It creates a record of this particular project for use in future research on aesthetic pedagogy and curriculum development within a design focus. In this particular case study approach, where the researcher also performed the role of participant and developer, the design process was established from evaluation and the gathering of data during the program's initial workshop trials and developmental stages. The process included the analysis of participant observations, interviews, syllabi, lesson plans, and other curriculum and instructional records. It aimed to collect and evaluate as much data as possible as the program progressed from conception and evolved with the implementation of new aesthetic pedagogical practices. It took into consideration the reactions and analyses of participants for whom the curriculum was designed. The findings of this study helped to evaluate the pros and cons of designing curriculum with an aesthetic pedagogy and to determine if such practices could have a significant impact on the evolving world of design education. It is important to note that this research study only documents the first phases of implementing aesthetic pedagogical practices into a costume and fashion design curriculum. Further analysis and research are needed to consider the long-term effects with participants and to develop possibilities for evolving approaches to this particular model or similar courses. The research study also identifies the benefits and challenges observed within the scope of this particular study, which may serve to help in the development of future studies about aesthetic pedagogies and designing curriculum for costume and fashion courses.
