Motivating teachers, especially in higher-poverty settings, is a challenge. More motivated teachers are more likely to perform better and motivate their students. Increased motivation also can lead to increased teacher retention rates. One of the factors contributing to work motivation is a sense of relatedness with one's coworkers. Data were gathered from two secondary school sites using two existing Likert-type scale instruments consisting of 10 questions regarding perceived relatedness and 18 questions regarding work motivation. Four demographic questions were also asked. The participants were roster-carrying teachers from one public high school and one public middle school. The data were analyzed for correlation and linear regression. The findings of this study indicated that the relationship between perceived relatedness and work motivation was found to be significant. The data was also disaggregated by school type, gender, ethnicity, and years of teaching. These demographic factors did not significantly influence the correlation between the two variables.
