Thesis (M.S.)--Purdue University, 2012.
Emergency management services are one of the highest priority-based services practiced in crisis. Emergency management services are supported by emergency management information system which is a computer data system (a form of geographic information system (GIS)) that provides real-time information to people involved in disaster response and emergency management. An area of concern related to spatial databases of emergency management information system is the cost to maintain the databases, cost to perform analysis and execute queries on thousands and millions of rows of data and the efficiency of databases in rendering useful information within time. The study is about measuring the cost-effectiveness of the database model schemas (involved in storing emergency management building data in Case 1 with 8-reference point representation and Case 2 with 1-reference point representation). Based on the results of analysis discussed as metrics in this research, I estimate the cost-effectiveness of the two proposed case models. Given the importance of emergency management and its requirement that first responders and relief workers receive complete and accurate information, both the case models will be evaluated.
