In Thailand, evidence has indicated that adolescents in Thailand are having sex at younger ages and the rate of unwanted pregnancy among adolescents is still rising (Watthong et al., 2010). A sexual educational program targeting early female adolescents was developed to examine the effectiveness of a nurse-implemented teaching and counselling intervention based on the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) regarding the delay of sexual intercourse among young Thai female adolescents. A two-group, quasi-experimental study design featuring pre- and post-tests was selected to determine the effects of the educational program among 140 Thai females aged 12-13 years old who were studying in 7th grade in Udonthani, Thailand. Intention to delay sexual intercourse was described through attitudes measured by behavioral beliefs, subjective norms measured by normative beliefs, and perceived behavior control measured by control beliefs and perceived power. The study found significant differences through post-test scores and statistical analysis regarding behavior, normative, and control beliefs, as well as intention to delay sexual intercourse, which support the conclusion that the education program was effective (p < .001).
