Chapter 1: The 'Nuclear Game' is a stochastic game with imperfect information and two sources of uncertainty-"type uncertainty" and "action-set uncertainty". Respectively, what actions of the short-lived players invoke a nuclear counter attack, and whether the informed long-lived player has nuclear weapons. In equilibrium, a long-lived player with nuclear weapons keeps the weapon secret if and only if the game exhibits type uncertainty. Moreover, the probability that the weapon will be kept secret forever-namely will not be introduced through a detonation experiment or during a conflict-is positive only if conflict takes place while the probability that the nuclear weapon was already developed is sufficiently low. Chapter 2: Different identification strategies, variable selections and sample choices give rise to conflicting evidences regarding the relation between legalization of abortions in the U.S. during the 1970s and reduction in crime during the 1990s. I provide micro foundation for this relationship and point out implicit assumptions associated with the conjecture that legalization of abortion reduced crime. Next, I characterize a model-space in which the linear models that were tested in the literature are nested. Within that model-space I identify what assumptions are conducive to an evidence in favor of the conjecture. These assumptions are discussed. Special attention is dedicated to the relation between age distribution of criminals, and the intensity of criminal activity of a single individual in different ages.
