Little research on the multicultural aspects in the field of Sport Psychology has been conducted, but the available research shows that a majority of sport psychology professionals are White upper/middle class Males. However, sports such as Basketball, Football, and Baseball, which can be considered America's big three sports, are predominately made up of Black athletes or mainly Hispanic athletes for Baseball.

A quantitative approach was utilized to gather data for this of study. Statistical analysis of a ten-question survey sent out to 352 student-athletes from a Mid-Western Division I institution was conducted. Response rate of 50.5% shows that 178 student-athletes completed the survey. One of the questions on the survey used photos of eight individuals who represented Asian, Black, Hispanic, and White SP. Each race was represented by a male and female.

Results revealed that a majority of the student-athletes selected the Black Male SP. Based on the other questions of the study, it was revealed that students felt that perception of athletic history and knowledge of sport were important factors to consider when working with a SP. Overall, the present research suggests that the Black male athlete is highly represented in sport and stereotyped to be a greater athlete, which may explain why a majority of the student athletes selected the Black male SP.
