For the last two decades, there has been much research on issues surrounding homeland security and the role that information plays in public safety. The emphasis has been on the transfer of key intelligence from agency to agency. This research study explores the perceptions and experiences of patrol-level officers with respect to how information sharing practices affect their ability to do their sworn duty. The research project used an idiographic phenomenological approach. The interviews attempted to obtain rich, thick, descriptions of the feelings, perceptions, and experiences of the patrol officers that agreed to participate in this study. The sampling was purposeful using rank and willingness as the criteria for selection. The data were analyzed using a modified van Kaam methodology. The findings indicated that information sharing had improved and that several of the themes were consistent with prior research and several indicated some degree of evolution. Recommendations for future research include structuring a future study to assess the relative importance of the contributing themes, conducting a similar study in a much larger police department and lastly to investigate alternative theoretical frameworks that may apply and provide a better level of understanding.
