Thesis (Ph.D.)--University of Southern California, 2017.
The United States is experiencing profound demographic shifts, with the aging of the baby boom generation and the entrance of the millennial generation leaving and entering labor and housing markets, respectively. At the same time, the nation is becoming an increasingly racially and ethnically diverse society. This unique moment provides a timely opportunity for analyzing the impact of demographic change. This dissertation focuses on examining relationships between population and housing choices at individual, city, and national levels. Using the framework of housing and urban demography, my dissertation contains three essays, which investigate (1) the long-term legacy of Hurricane Katrina on housing, labor, and schooling outcomes of hurricane victims, (2) the geographic distribution and factors of residential location choice among young adults, and (3) the strategic responses of financial institutions to dramatic neighborhood changes under the Community Reinvestment Act (CRA).Subjects--Topical Terms:
