Thesis (M.S.)--Utica College, 2018.
The TCP/IP protocol suite is vulnerable to a variety of well-known attacks that have been confirmed and published over the past twenty-five years. These vulnerabilities affect nearly all network traffic, including Internet communication, due to the widespread acceptance of TCP/IP as the network protocol standard among hardware and software vendors. This research examines several documented flaws in the TCP/IP protocol suite. It then proceeds to examine technologies that currently exist to mitigate the risks associated with these security flaws. This research also extends to present enhancements and innovations that have been proposed to further mitigate these risks. After discussing these findings, recommendations for future research are offered that include increasing IPv6 deployment, implementing the Trusted Platform Module, and utilizing YARA rules to improve the security posture of the TCP/IP protocol.
