Thesis (Ed.D.)--Trevecca Nazarene University, 2018.
This research sought to examine the relationships between role model types selected by adolescents, exposure to mass media, and social and academic self-concept. A Pearson r was run to compare social self-concept, academic self-concept and media exposure. A Pearson r was also run to assess the relationship between social self-concept, academic self-concept, and role model exposure. A one-way ANOVA was used to determine if a significant difference existed between media exposure and the type of role models selected. The results indicated no significant relationships between social and academic self-concepts with media and role model exposure. Also, participants who selected role models in the sports type or the entertainment type were significantly different in their average amount of media exposure.
