Service learning has gained prominence in schools as a way for students to gain valuable learning experiences outside of the classroom. This curriculum development project examines how service learning activities van be implemented into the social studies classroom, specifically as the culminating lesson in a unit plan. A service learning project cannot just be added to a unit, it is necessary to build upon prior knowledge and lessons. While this service learning curriculum project is designed for a social studies classroom, it also has a cross-curricular focus, integrating science into the unit.
