Thesis (M.F.A.)--University of Calgary (Canada), 2017.
Performative Beings: An Exploration of Gender Identity and Perceptions of Self(ves) explores the work produced as part of my studio-led research as a means to investigate my body as a site of inscribed social meaning. Specifically, I discuss the ways I use painted self-portraiture as an empowering mechanism for self-representation that can be used for gender exploration and experimentation within creative research. The four projects that are addressed in this writing are (HOT)(DOG) (2016), The Throne (2016), Greenhouse Guerrillas (2017), and One-Man Show (2017). Through my discussion of these works in this thesis support paper, I attempt to map out my exploration of personal identity, gender performativity, and queer subjectivities.
