Thesis (D.M.)--University of Phoenix, 2017.
The success of an organization partly depends on whether its members or employees are committed to it and its cause. The employee's self-identity within an organization is a factor of the employees' psychological contract that frames the individuals' committed to the team. A quantitative analysis of surveys data from 19 foreign-born male retired/ none active enlisted naval personnel from the West Coast and 17 of the same from the East Coast was conducted to determine if a statistical correlation exists between the member's psychological contract (PC) and self-identity (SI). Spearman (R2), and ordinal linear correlation analysis were used to test the study hypothesis. The Spearman correlation test result (p-value= .233, and r2 = .126), revealed a weak (negligible) positive correlation between the PC and SI. The conclusion was that no relationship exists between the naval personnel psychological contract and self-identity. The ordinal linear correlation analysis result (p-value=0.007) reveal that employee fulfillment a subcategory of PC had a significant relationship with SI. Due to the p-value = 0.007 being close to absolute zero (0.00) the conclusion was that with caution, employee fulfillment a subcategory of the psychological contract could be used to predict self-identity. Based on the result of the study, native and foreign-born, retired male and female personnel from all the five branches (Army, Airforce, Marine, Coast Guards, and Navy) of the United States military should be included in future investigations.
