Thesis (Psy.D.)--Adler School of Professional Psychology, 2016.
A correlational design was used to examine the relationship between the level of internal encouragement and reports of resilient outcomes and traits within a Military Service Member population. A total of 60 surveys were completed online by current and previous military service members. The Encouragement Scale General Form (EDG) was used to measure encouragement while the Brief Resilience Scale (BRS) measured resilient outcomes and the Dispositional Resilience Scale (DRS15) measured the resilience trait of hardiness. The hypothesis of the study asserted that there would be a positive correlation between service members' level of internal encouragement and resilient outcomes and traits. Hypotheses were tested through application of one-tailed Pearson's correlations used to identify the strength of the relationship between the EDG, BRS, and DRS15. All were significantly positively correlated. This indicated a strong correlation between encouragement and resilient outcomes and traits.
