Thesis (M.A.)--Howard University, 2008.
Human trafficking emerged in the 1990s as one of the important issue on the international agenda. This research examines the conditions of the global economy and global labor and their impact on selected characteristics of human trafficking in the period of capitalist globalization between 1995 and 2005. By using historical materialist theory, this study analyzes human trafficking as the extreme commodification and exploitation of human labor in the current stage of the global capitalist system from 1995 to 2005. This exploratory, descriptive study analyzes data from various international organizations, such as the United Nations and the International Labour Organization. This research found that the economic growth and integration of the global economy have directly affected the living conditions of working people and the conditions of global labor, and have contributed to the emergence of human trafficking in the global labor force.
