Thesis (M.A.)--Pacifica Graduate Institute, 2018.
Somatic psychology has widely explored the role of the patient's body in the healing process. This thesis has been inspired by the lack of research and awareness in academic literature of the importance of the body of the therapist in the clinical room. Using hermeneutical and heuristic methodologies, this thesis has inquired into the nature of the therapist's body as a tuning fork for picking up on critical intuitive data about the clinical experience. Psychological literature and the author's own experience are used to show the importance of the therapist's body as an instrument of receptivity of intuitive information that helps inform the pacing and intervention choices in a session. The second facet of inquiry in this thesis explored the importance for therapists of pursuing a somatic practice in order to keep themselves in optimum intuitive shape for their clinical work.
