In this dissertation, the focus is on the Ethiopian Evangelical Church Mekane Yesus (EECMY) members who experienced ethnolinguistic hostilities for more than a decade and their remarkable resolution using an unconventional mediation tool of feet-washing that invited an investigation into theoretical constructs. The problem is that despite a landmark reconciliation and reunification agreement to end hostilities; those actions failed to address and resolve the ethnolinguistic issues adequately, which caused continued conflicts and tensions. The research used qualitative ethnographic study as a tool to gather data of lived experiences from a total of 35 selected participants who were central to the ethnolinguistic conflicts. The study explored three areas of research gaps: the interaction and reaction of ethnic identity with the Christian faith and moral values, the psychological and emotional implications of feet-washing, and the contagious nature of forgiveness in transforming lives. Findings in these areas suggested that identity was rigid and at times resistant to the Christian faith principles of love and the kingdom mind. Feet-washing, although unconventional, was a powerful and compassionate mediation tool, mitigating trust issues and giving meaning to ethnic-related conflict resolution. Forgiveness influenced, empowered, and inspired the church. Accordingly, this research presented detailed data-collection analysis, discussions, limitations, recommendations, and conclusions with useful implications for future mediations or research in the areas of race or ethnic-related conflicts.
