Thesis (M.S.)--University of Colorado at Boulder, 2017.
This study evaluates design variables associated with curtain walls in highrise buildings across the various climate zones in the United States. The study evaluates the potential energy and cost impacts of each critical variable related to facade design in order to provide guidance as to what variables offer the greatest potential to achieve energy cost and consumption savings throughout the life of the facility. A parametric analysis was performed to determine the potential consumption and cost impacts of an optimized facade. Additionally, impacts related to equipment sizing and occupant comfort are evaluated across the climate zones and the various impacts of curtain wall facade optimization in high rise buildings are discussed.
