The findings indicated that those Chinese students from a British background were more accurate in identifying the lects of the speakers than were the students from the other backgrounds. Those from a British background, however, did not appear to most strongly favor the language of the British speakers. Rather, the majority of the students, regardless of background, showed a preference for American English, and a prejudice against Texan English.
