This study aimed at estimating the factors that influence adoption of agritourism among smallholder farmers in North Carolina using a survey. A logistic regression model was employed to analyze factors as well as a description of farm operator characteristics outlined. All the variables used in the model were dummied and the results show that of the factors analyzed, A farmer with internet access had the greatest odds of adopting agritourism than a farmer who had no access to the internet. Farms with greater distance from the city favor the likelihood of adopting agritourism in North Carolina. Other factors such as, a farmer with at most a high school education, a farmer who is fifty-four years or younger in age, public access to farm and a farmer with a hundred or more acres of farmland increased the odds of adopting agritourism as an enterprise. Out of all the variables used, providing public access to the farm, farms located within a distance less than twenty-nine miles from a central city within the county and Education are significant in determining why a farm will adopt agritourism in North Carolina. In conclusion, farms with less than twenty acres are involved in agritourism in validating the argument that diversification decisions are favorable for small farmers as well as the tourism economy of North Carolina.
