The inclusion movement is an international phenomenon that provides students with disabilities access to general educational classrooms. Although a significant number of students are enrolled in inclusive settings, there is a lack of consensus among researchers and practitioners on the academic implications of the phenomenon. The purpose of this causal-comparative study was to determine the effects of classroom settings on deaf and hard of hearing (D/HH) students' reading achievement. The Criterion-Referenced Competency Test (CRCT) reading and Lexile scores of 33 D/HH students, who attend elementary school in a large school district in a Southern state, were obtained and analyzed. Descriptive and inferential statistics were employed to determine if any relationships existed between the three independent variables (classroom setting, degree of hearing loss, and grade) and two dependent variables (reading and Lexile scores). Results from the study indicated that of the three independent variables, classroom setting was the only variable of significance (reading - p = 0.047, Lexile - p = 0.035).
