Thesis (Ph.D.)--Capella University, 2015.
The purpose of this basic qualitative study was to uncover and illuminate the instructional strategies, techniques, and processes used by exceptional teachers of gifted learners. Campus administrators identified exceptional teachers who were then approached to participate in the study. Through semi-structured interviews, journal responses, and analysis of student work, 10 teachers shared strategies, techniques, and processes they use to support gifted learners. Two overriding themes emerged through the analysis of the data; addressing the specific needs of gifted learners and increasing teacher knowledge of gifted learners. The findings shared many specific strategies that aligned with current research, as well as additional strategies, techniques, and processes used by the teachers. This research can be used by other teachers to increase their understanding and classroom practices to support gifted learners. Finally, educational leaders can share the research with any teacher teaching gifted students and continue to support those that currently teach gifted learners.
