This study was designed to determine if Kangaroo Care improves mother-infant interaction and if the improvement increases with the use of Kangaroo Care. A modified version of the Brazelton Neonatal Behavioral Assessment Scale and the Mother Infant Communication Scale (MICS) were used to evaluate the mother-infant interaction. Mother-infant dyads were videotaped at a NICU follow-up clinic and the video was later analyzed using the MICS and the adaptation of the Brazelton. No significant differences were found between groups (Optimal Kangaroo Care n=8, Minimal Kangaroo Care n=8), however, mean scores of the Optimal Kangaroo Care group in almost all subtest and total scores were higher when compared to the Minimal Kangaroo Care Group. Further research is needed to determine if statistically significant results can be found.
