Thesis (Ph.D.)--The University of the Rockies, 2016.
The purpose of this qualitative descriptive multiple case study was to determine the presence and basic characteristics of the phenomenon of misrecognition in multilingual organizations. This study explored the presence of misrecognition in multilingual organizations through telephonic interviews of managers and leaders of multilingual workplaces who had been in a managerial position for a minimum of five years at multilingual organizations, following the framework of two research questions: (a) How does the phenomenon of misrecognition exist in multilingual organizations as determined by managers and leaders in the multilingual organizations? and (b) What are the characteristics of misrecognition as it manifests in multilingual organizations? The analysis of the data collected through the interviews revealed that misrecognition was present in multilingual organizations to varying degrees, and can be limited through diversity policies, procedures, training, and manager control. The findings and conclusions of the study are significant in that they provide the foundation needed to further study misrecognition in multilingual organizations.
