Thesis (Ph.D.)--California Institute of Integral Studies, 2017.
This dissertation is a study of ecstatic dance using an arts based and phenomenological lens combined with a participatory research method. The approach is transdisciplinary and includes psychology, philosophy, dance, psychodrama, anthropology, somatics, bioenergetics, music, and brain science. The guiding question is, how does ecstatic dance affect the lives of its participants? Answers to this question were inspired by two dance workshops and emerged through a participatory research method, which helped reveal themes about personal and spiritual transformation, communications through movement, community dynamics, sexuality, and physical wellness.
