This dissertation consists of three independent papers. The first paper analyzes the impact of work-life policies on representation of female faculty in economics department of U.S. doctoral granting institutions. In particular, this paper studies the relationship between work-life policies and tenure status of female faculty, and their representation in economics departments. The second paper examines the impacts of female bargaining power on fertility outcomes and contraceptive behavior. The objective of this paper is to determine what factors of female bargaining power lower women's fertility outcomes and increase their family planning practices using the 2012 Tajikistan Demographic and Health Survey. Finally, the third paper provides a study of academics' job satisfaction at U.S. universities. The study analyzes the relationship between gender and different job aspects of satisfaction of U.S. academics from thirteen research universities.
