Thesis (M.F.A.)--Long Island University, The Brooklyn Center, 2016.
Parting the Waters is a cross-genre collection of short stories, prose poems, and poems about the experience of different kinds of boats, starting with Noah's Ark and Besty, the small boat, and proceeding to bigger vessels, such as the Slave ship, the Warship, or the Ghost ship. Each boat or ship is animate and gendered: female. The ship is a recorder of the impressions she receives from people and things in her immediate surroundings. The narrative she confides in the reader varies with the experience of each ship. There are historical and factual truths in the narratives, but overall the collection depicts the imaginary worlds of the ships.
