Thesis (M.S.)--Rush University, 2016.
Several factors influence word retrieval, including age of acquisition, word frequency, grammatical class, and animacy. These factors are interdependent and can work in tandem to either facilitate or reduce the speed of retrieval. Many studies have investigated the role of one or two of these factors with regard to word retrieval in both normal subjects and people with aphasia, but none have considered them all concurrently. In this study, 11 people with aphasia and 6 normal subjects completed picture naming tasks. Their reactions times were measured and analyzed to determine the degree of impact of each of the aforementioned factors on the speed of word retrieval.
