This research looks at the effects of integrating literacy across the curriculum in the elementary classroom, particularly in the fourth grade classroom. In this study, data was collected to determine whether or not the integration of literacy instruction into the content areas, specifically science and social studies, would have a positive effect on students' achievement in the area of language arts. This research study was conducted with fourth grade students who were enrolled in the teacher/researcher's class and were instructed with a variety of teaching strategies that integrated reading and writing with the content that was being taught in science and social studies.
