Thesis (M.S.)--University of South Dakota, 2017.
Oftentimes in biology, there are questions regarding the future of populations. Projection matrices can be utilized to solve such problems. These models neatly summarize the structure of the population, which can be found using the population's life cycle graph. In this paper, different structures of these matrices will be discussed. The structure chosen is dependent on the attributes of the population in question. Once the model is constructed, mathematical methods can be applied to obtain important information regarding the population. Applications to conservation and ecotoxicology will be discussed. The information obtained from these analyses can be used to make informed management decisions backed by quantitative theory.
