Due to the increasing politicization of sexuality throughout the United States, anti-homosexual hate crimes have been increasingly subject to prosecution. However, juries are all too often biased against the victims of LGBT hate crimes. This study examined the relationship between jurors' religious orientation and their responses to an LGBT hate crime scenario. 40 jury-eligible adults in California completed a survey, and data was analyzed using a causal comparative between-subjects research design. The study found that there was no significant difference in verdict or sentencing between the religious fundamentalist and non-religious fundamentalist groups.
