The landscape of weekly sermon preparation has changed in the United States over the past decades due to the fast-paced nature of society and technology, which has created unidentified practices for preaching practitioners. This dissertation investigates sermon preparation processes as taught in homiletical textbooks and compares those practices with what local Christian ministers are actually doing on a weekly basis in view of the practicality of parish ministry. Through interviews with ministers, sermon preparation steps have been developed for the technologically infused ministry culture. The results are best practices for scholars, textbook publishers, homiletics educators, and clergy as they face more changes in years to come.
