The respondents to the Part One--survey were 12 supervisor and 154 supervisee volunteers of the counseling practicum courses in the Fall, 1992. Ten supervisors and seventeen supervisees participated in the second part of the study--in depth interview.

The instruments employed were the Supervisee Questionnaire, the Supervisor Questionnaire, and two interview guides for supervisors and supervisees respectively. The one-way ANOVA, nonparametric statistics, and content analysis were used to answer 18 research questions.

Major finding of this study included that the loading of supervisors was too much; most supervisors did not have much counseling experience with school aged clients; the on-site supervision was not performing effectively; both supervisors and supervisees agreed that cognitive-behavioral, person-centered, and eclectic approaches were commonly used by supervisors; class discussions, role playing, and case presentation were generally accepted by supervisees as viable modalities; the supervisees' overall perceptions of supervision were moderately satisfactory; some supervisees had unpleasant experiences from supervision; and most supervisors adjusted their attitudes, expectations, and supervisory relationships according to different developmental levels of supervisees.

The results of the study led to the conclusion that supervisors in Taiwan generally devoted themselves to serve as competent supervisors. However, they need to enhance their counseling experiences to school aged children. The system of counselor training programs needs to be reevaluated and improved. A three-dimensional model proposed by the investigator could be applied to modify the existing counselor training courses in Taiwan, R.O.C.
