SCRAMBLED (SCM) is an atypical leucine-rich repeat receptor-like kinase, involved in a number of developmental processes in Arabidopsis thaliana like root epidermal patterning, inflorescence stem growth, silique dehiscence, leaf morphology. It has also been suggested that SCM interacts with other proteins like QUIRKY (QKY), ANGUSTIFOLIA (AN) and PAL OF QUIRKY (POQ) and perform specific functions in Arabidopsis. INFLORESCENCE MERISTEM RECEPTOR LIKE KINASE 2 (IMK2) is one of the members of LRR RLKs, which shows a strong co-expression pattern with SCM; also their interaction has been reported. So I tested the interaction of IMK2 and SCM by yeast two-hybrid analysis to find out the specific domains interacting. I also checked the role of IMK2 with SCM in root epidermal patterning and inflorescence stem growth. I observed that imk2 mutant did not cause any effect on inflorescence stem growth. The study done on root epidermal patterning by GL2:: GUS expression pattern, showed a repressor action of imk2 mutant on scm-2 mutant. The disrupted root epidermal patterning of the scm-2 mutant showed a partial recovery by the imk2 mutation. These results show that IMK2 is not involved in the inflorescence stem growth but is involved in root epidermal pattering showing a suppressor effect on SCM.
