In this phenomenological study, I focused on Latina mothers' perspectives of how their attachment with their daughters changed after the disclosure of sexual abuse. Few qualitative studies exist in the general child sexual abuse literature related to Latina mother-daughter attachments. In an effort to address this gap, I employed the qualitative approach of Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) to elicit information about how attachment changes between Latina mother-daughter dyads after the disclosure of child sexual abuse. Throughout this research, how Latina mothers view their relationships with their daughters included culturally relevant perceptions of the closeness, safety, security, responsiveness, and attunement with the mother-daughter dyad before and after the sexual abuse disclosure. I interviewed ten Latina mothers' for this study. Ten overarching themes emerged from the data: (a) role of religion and God as support; (b) increased communication with child and trust of mom from child after the disclosure; (c) importance of role of mother for protection; (d) emotional restraint; (e) family secrets to protect child; (f) family blame and isolation; (g) intergenerational abuse; (h) mothers' feelings of loneliness and avoidance of talking about abuse with child; (i) mothers increased attunement toward child, and j) mothers' guilt.
