This thesis addresses the deteriorating relationship between community and landscape in Parrsboro, Nova Scotia, Canada. Parrsboro is one of many towns located along the shores of the Bay of Fundy, a unique landscape generated by the highest tides in the world. Since colonization, these settlements have been inextricably linked to the ocean through work, ultimately relying upon it for survival. The steady decline of coastal industries has created a rift between Parrsboro residents and the Fundy environment.

520 $a This thesis proposes to reconnect Parrsboro with the Fundy landscape through a commercial and recreational appropriation of part of the existing industrial wharf. The borrowing of landscape and phenomena link the foreground of the wharf with the background of the intertidal landscape. A sensitive manipulation of the wharfs timber pile structure acknowledges the town's maritime material culture and signifies the wharfs enduring role within the typical coastal community.
