Due to an epidemic of stress in law enforcement, there has been an increase in the interest of emotional intelligence. The purpose of the current study was to investigate the relationship between stress management skills and emotional intelligence in federal air marshals. Secondly, the study purposed to investigate the relationship between emotional intelligence and flexibility, stress tolerance and optimism. Previous researchers have concluded that there is a relationship between emotional intelligence and stress; however, it was found that there are no studies investigating the relationship between emotional intelligence and stress management skills in Federal Air Marshals, a subset of law enforcement officers. A quantitative research, non-experimental research design using archival data was employed for the study. The randomly drawn sample consisted of federal air marshals who completed an Emotional Intelligence EQ-i 2.0 report and were within the leadership pay bands. The study used a Correlational and Regression research analysis. The study found that there is a significant relationship between emotional intelligence and stress management. In addition, the study found a significant relationship between emotional intelligence, stress tolerance, flexibility and optimism. This study purposed to extend the literature of the investigation of the two constructs of emotional intelligence and stress management.
