Thesis (Ph.D.)--Northwestern University, 2015.
How grammatically rich are the representations that the parser accesses in antecedent retrieval for elliptical constructions, and how syntactically constrained in the search process? This dissertation investigates the representation and processing of Gapping in English and other languages and concludes that elided material is morphologically rich, and that on-line retrieval of elided material employs a cue-based memory system but may only engage this system under conditions of ambiguity or failure to find a grammatical antecedent.
