The purpose of this study is to investigate the applicability of social support systems in predicting the emotional well-being of people aged 65 years and older. The research question addressed is "do social support systems predict emotional well-being in the population aged 65 years and older?" The main points of focus were the Duke Social Support and Stress Scale (DUSOCS) total scores and the World Health Organization (WHO) (5) Well-Being Index total scores. In this paper, the researcher looked at self-reported social support systems alongside the participants' emotional well-being. Accordingly, this study looked to determine the exact application of the social system in the context of taking care of the older adult's welfare. The reason is because different specialists address the issue of emotional well-being in different perspectives. The literature review examined whether social support systems predict the emotional well-being among persons aged 65 years and above based on the socio-emotional selectivity theory and academic works. Even though the family was found to be the most effective social support, the studies could not agree on whether it is children or spousal relationships that offer stronger familial support amongst older adults. The researcher applied a quantitative approach to this study. The target population was older adults aged 65 years and older. This population comprised of older adults who lived within the community where the research took place. It was established that all the variables, except family stress, are normally distributed and skewed to the left because their mean was greater than their standard deviations. This study concluded that as family stress increases, the emotional well-being of individuals aged 65 years and above decreases.
