Sexual behavior is an often unaddressed topic in both psychotherapy and graduate school. Prior research found five factors influence psychologists' ability to convey sexually related information: sexual knowledge, sexual attitudes and values, comfort with sexual material, and sexuality related clinical and education experience. The present study investigated these five factors, their correlation, and if they can predict competency. Actual sex knowledge was not related to perceived sex knowledge. Competence was predicted by sex attitudes and experience which has implications for the training of future professional psychologists and points to the importance of not confusing actual and perceived sexual knowledge.
