Thesis (Ph.D.)--Capella University, 2016.
The researcher conducted a quantitative, non-experimental, cross-sectional, exploratory correlational study consisting of an online survey of United States resident members of the Baby Boomer cohort (ages 51-69, inclusive) in mid-2015. Participants either owned or used a smartphone or a tablet mobile device. The survey assessed attitudes and opinions regarding enhanced mobile-device security. Utilizing the extended unified theory of the acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT2), the survey instrument determined whether the relationship between the independent variable age and the dependent variable enhanced mobile-device security level (EMDSL) was moderated by the eight UTAUT2 variables performance expectancy, effort expectancy, social influence, facilitating conditions, hedonic motivation, price value, habit, and behavioral intention. Results revealed that the participants (N = 375) self-assessed a low level of security on their mobile devices and that age was negatively associated with EMDSL at p = .018. The combined variables explained about 40% of variation in responses (R2 = .396).
